Sr. Director, Science - Molecular Oncology (Licensed)                                                                                                                            _______________________________________________________________________

Job Summary

The Sr. Director, Science – Molecular Oncology acting under the leadership of the Executive Director, Advanced Diagnostics and in collaboration with R&D, Clinical Franchises, and Operations is responsible for aligning the Company’s Molecular oncology technical, regulatory, and operational strategies to maximize high-quality patient care and ensure continuous business growth throughout the enterprise.  Principle duties of the position requires operational, managerial, and technical oversight of Molecular Oncology activities including troubleshooting and technical operation of laboratory instrumentation and assay methodologies, identifying solutions to technically related customer concerns, and partnering with the operations and research teams on developing and implementing method modifications under the direction and approval of the Executive Director and/or Medical Director(s).    

Job Accountabilities

1.     This individual will understand, interpret, counsel and sign-off on test design and development, validation plans and reports as well as interpretation and reporting of clinical test results, and may assume
Technical Supervisor responsibilities in Molecular Oncology.

2.     Directs, plans and manages activities of Associate Scientific Director, managers, and scientists for feasibility studies, new product development, modifications and improvements of assays and newly and
modified platforms,  troubleshooting of assays, and transfer to manufacturing and launch. 

3.     Partners with senior and Executive Management to develop plans and approaches for new products. 

4.     Accountable for ensuring that product development projects are done according to the Company’s Design Control Process and are compliant with all domestic and international regulatory requirements. 

5.     Provides expert advice to executive leadership and technical personnel regarding development technologies and activities. 

6.     Provides inputs for new research developments in the appropriate fields of expertise making recommendations on tests to develop consistent with mandates from the Chief Medical Officer, Clinical Franchises, and/or other internal businesses.

7.     Reviews testing which may be reloaded to Quest Diagnostics regional laboratory facilities.

8.     Member of appropriate Sub-specialty Team(s).  Attendance at regular Sub-specialty Team
meeting and other senior laboratory management staff meetings.  Participates in all significant scientific,
business and policy decisions impacting the clinical utility and quality of testing services.

9.     Provide educational programs for the medical and laboratory staff, and participates in educational programs of the Company.

10.  Perform other duties as assigned.
 

Job Requirements- Knowledge, Skills and
Experience:

1.     Doctoral degree, PhD and/or MD or equivalent.

2.      Sub-specialty training and Board Certification in Molecular Genetics or Molecular Genetic
Pathology; eligible or licensed to practice in Texas.

3.      NYSDOH certified in molecular and cellular tumor markers.

4.      Experience in clinical sign-out of molecular and genomic assays in oncology is desirable.

5.      Five (5) years or more of clinical laboratory experience (or its equivalent), with at
least two years in the field of testing performed by the department/division

6.      Experience in test development utilizing PCR, qPCR, RTPCR, NGS and other advanced molecular testing technology required.

7.      Proven personnel management strength including demonstrated ability to select, motivate, develop, evaluate performance, discipline, and promote collaborative team efforts

8.       Knowledge and understanding of the trends and forces shaping the health care delivery system, the provision of care, and other emerging issues in healthcare management.

9.      Demonstrated flexibility and initiative to effectively lead change efforts to respond to marketplace or organizational changes.

10.  Superior interpersonal and communication skills.

11.  Highly developed ability to work effectively with a variety of constituencies, and ability to lead and manage through influence and delegation.

12.  Demonstrated fiscal management capabilities including effective expense reduction, utilization,
management, and budget control.

13.  Demonstrated capabilities in cross-functional process assessment, problem- solving and process improvement.

14.  Demonstrated experience in organizing and assigning work, allocating resources, and scheduling appropriate staff mix.

15.  Demonstrated knowledge of current technical, quality control, and quality assurance procedures and laboratory information systems.

16.  Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
