Job Description

Schedule: Weekends as needed

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Decisions would affect the financial, employee, or public relations posture of the company.  Erroneous decisions or recommendations would result in failure of the overall success of the function, division or company operations.   Directs activities of mid/senior management levels.  Determines and establishes organizational structures and supervisory relationships, subject to top management approval.  Responsible for managing a major scientific function of the company. Responsible for the successful operation of activities of major significance to the functional area.  Ensures that overall budgets, schedules, and performance standards are realistically set and attained. Provides direction to subordinates based on general policies and management guidance.  Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.

Technical Breadth:

Viewed as a leading expert in the field. Demonstrates exceptional scientific creativity and vision. Develops information which extends knowledge in a given field.

Policy Involvement:

Establishes organizational policies in a major scientific function of the company.  Interprets, executes, and recommends modifications to company-wide policies.

Discretion / Latitude:

Work is performed without appreciable direction.  Determines organizational objectives and interprets company policies.  Completed work is reviewed from a relatively long-term perspective for desired results.

Communication:

Possesses exceptional verbal, written and presentation skills and is an effective collaborator, both within the company and with external research groups.

Interactions:

Represents the organizational unit as prime internal and external contact on contracts or operations.  Conducts briefings and technical meetings for top management and scientific partners.  Interacts with equivalent and executive level managers concerning matters of significance to the company.  Able to convey ideas and information verbally and in writing in a detailed, yet concise, manner.  Serves as organization spokesperson on advanced programs and projects. 

Supervision: 

Directs and controls the activities of one or more functional areas, divisions, product or service groups, etc. through managers with overall responsibility for the direction of those assigned areas.

Ph.D. or equivalent level of experience
