Job Description

The  Director, Science of Infectious Disease/Microbiology acting under the leadership of the Sr. Director or Medical Director,  Infectious Diseases and in collaboration with the Clinical Franchises and Operations is responsible for aligning the Company’s Infectious Disease  technical, regulatory, and operational strategies to maximize high-quality patient care and ensure continuous business growth throughout the enterprise.  Principle duties of the position requires operational, managerial, and technical oversight of  Infectious disease specialties, both theoretical and analytical:  Microbiology, Serology, & Molecular Infectious disease.

Job Accountabilities

1.      Directs, plans and manages Infectious Diseases activities of  managers, and scientists for feasibility studies, new product development, modifications and improvements of assays and newly and modified platforms,  troubleshooting of assays, and transfer to manufacturing and launch. 

2.      Partners with senior and Executive Management to develop plans and approaches for new products. 

3.      Accountable for ensuring that product development projects are done according to the Company’s Design Control Process and are compliant with all domestic and international regulatory requirements. 

4.      Provides expert advice to executive leadership and technical personnel regarding development technologies and activities. 

5.      Provides inputs for new research developments in the appropriate fields of expertise making recommendations on tests to develop consistent with mandates from the Chief Medical Officer, Clinical Franchises, and/or other internal businesses.

6.      Reviews testing which may be reloaded to Quest Diagnostics regional laboratory facilities.

7.      Member of appropriate Subspecialty Team(s).  Attendance at regular Subspecialty Team meeting and other senior laboratory management staff meetings.  Participates in all significant scientific, business and policy decisions impacting the clinical utility and quality of testing services.

 8.      Provide educational programs for the medical and laboratory staff, and participates in educational programs of the Company. 

       9.      Perform other duties as assigned. 



Qualifications:

1         Ph.D. in Molecular Biology or Microbiology is required.

2.   California License is required to perform job duties as Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) and the ability to obtain a  CA Directors License in Microbiology (ABMM)

3         NY State CoQ’s preferred or ability to obtain NY State CoQ’s in appropriate subspecialty.

4         10+ years of Clinical Laboratory experience in the field of Infectious Disease, Molecular Biology, or Microbiology is required.

5         Must possess exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills, and be an effective collaborator with both internal and external clients. 

      6         Must be able to demonstrate business acumen and be computer savvy.
