Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for data entering all patient and specimen information into the laboratory information system. 

SUPERVISION:  

  • SUPERVISED BY: Transcription Manager
  • SUPERVISES: None
  • WORKS CLOSELY WITH: Department Managers/Leads, Transcription, and administrative staff.   

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

  • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Desired: Medical terminology.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Required: Minimum typing speed 40 WPM or equivalent 6 months’ work experience.
  • Desired: One year experience as a Data Entry Clerk in a medical facility.
  • LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR REGISTRATIONS:
  • Required: None
  • Desired: Medical terminology course.

EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS:

  • Laboratory Information System
  • Ability to operate copier, printer, fax machine and scanner.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of word-processing software.
  • Skills in written and oral communication.
  • Knowledge of Navinet and Emdeon systems

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Office environment. 

PHYSICAL AND COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires full range of body motion including manual finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. 
  • Sitting for extended periods of time.
  • May require lifting and carrying items up to 20 pounds.

KEY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Verifies requisitions for completeness of patient and client information
  • Accurately enters all patient and specimen information into laboratory information system (patient name, location, etc.).
  • Responsible for verifying patient names in Navinet or Emdeon for all cases that do not have insurance cards attached and also verifying illegible names in Navinet or Emdeon.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information concerning patients, physicians, employees, clients, vendors, and the Company.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all State, Federal, professional regulations as well as department rules, polices, and procedural manuals.
  • Adherence to Safety Regulations.
  • Adherence to HIPAA Regulations.
