This new role is a unique opportunity to assume a leadership position in an emerging area of focus for the company.  The Medical Director, Diagnostic Services, Medical Affairs is intended to provide clinical expertise in support the Company’s accelerating focus on driving Population Health with Lab Supported Strategies.  Quest is advancing offerings in several categories including “Data Insights & Technology Solutions,” “Clinical Programs” and “Patient Engagement.”

The individual we seek will have the credibility and stature to collaborate with talented colleagues within the Company and also be highly effective at representing the Company when engaging external customers and audiences.  A broad based medical knowledge will be instrumental in this person’s success, given the diverse clinical nature of this role. This talented physician executive will recognize the prestige that accompanies this role and have an appreciation for the respect Quest Diagnostics has earned in the market.


Based in the company headquarters in Madison, New Jersey, the Medical Director, Diagnostic Services, Medical Affairs will have a broad set of responsibilities.  This role is primarily an individual contributor role.  There are not direct reports to this role. 

This role will be responsible for: 

•         Maintaining professional relationships with a variety of medical experts and external bodies to ensure that Quest Diagnostics is being promoted appropriately and is always aware of new thinking in the diagnostics arena.

•         Building relationships by collaborating with trust and credibility across the company.  Key relationships will include the role’s supervisor, the VP, Medical Affairs, Population Health, and Chief Health Officer, Health & Wellness, and peers to this new role including the Franchise Medical Directors, appropriate organization peers who are members of teams within Quest including Extended Care, the Commercial Organization and Health & Wellness.

•         Assisting in the development, acceptance and sponsorship of new product technologies and opportunities; manage collaboration with internal as well as external constituencies, including the medical and scientific community.

•         Collaborating with all lines of business and functional groups to drive alignment and maximize growth across the organization.

•         Keeping abreast of competitor capabilities. 

•         Participating in key marketing activities and presentations, as necessary, to assist the sales and marketing effort.

•         Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of new information and technologies in medicine and their applications to Quest Diagnostics.

•         Creating a positive team driven work environment and an inclusive culture that will build strong employee relations and contribute to employee engagement.

•         Understanding the information technology market and how medical knowledge gets delivered through IT solutions. 


The ideal candidate will be board certified by an American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) recognized specialty, including Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, OB/GYN or General Surgery and will have an active and current medical license without encumbrances.  Past experience in the practice of medicine is preferred.  This individual will have significant and diverse physician executive healthcare experience and ideally will have worked in a large, corporate setting.  The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate past results leading broad scope initiatives and introducing innovative programs.  The successful candidate will be able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in an expedient and decisive manner and have a history of driving change in a mature company.  The successful candidate must possess the ability to look at issues globally and beyond today, anticipating opportunities and creating new and better ways of doing business.

This physician executive will be a state licensed MD/DO who is board certified in an ABMS specialty.
