Position Description:

The Executive Director, Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) reports to the SVP, Chief Human Resources Officer and is based at the Company’s Secaucus, NJ office.  This HRBP will be the key HR leader supporting the largest line of business for Quest, General Diagnostics that has approximately 30,000 employees in six US regions ranging from frontline Medical Technicians to Scientists to General Managers.  She/He will partner with EVP, General Diagnostics to influence the design and execution of the business strategy by providing consultative support and leadership.  S/He will translate the business plan into talent and organizational plans, and drive for results by building organizational capability and performance. She/He will lead a Human Resources team of 30+ employees and be a member of the Human Resources Leadership Team.

Key Accountabilities include:

Business Relationships

  • Builds relationships with executive level clients. Is a trusted and credible partner who anticipates needs and proactively recommends solutions

  • Serves as an active member of the executive leadership team in assigned business/function and is able to influence and challenge others at this level

  • Has a solid understanding of current and future business trends, both internal and external

  • Serves as executive coach providing guidance, feedback and consultation to leadership


    Strategy & Planning

  • Consults with senior leaders to develop and execute business strategy to build organizational capabilities, behaviors, structures and process.  Provides strategic direction and influences at all levels in order to drive implementation of the strategy

  • Translates the business plan into talent and organizational strategic plans (e.g. owns the People Strategy for assigned business to include: organizational re-design, strategic workforce planning, total rewards solutions, succession planning and talent management, organizational development and employee engagement of workforce)

  • Optimizes transformational change efforts by providing consulting support, guidance and a framework for leading and managing change

  • Responsible for succession planning / pipeline to ensure leadership talent in support the business strategy

  • Partners with and influences HR Centers of Excellence and HR Service Center to ensure the business is receiving optimal service and value added programs that are aligned with business strategy.

  • Use outcome based metrics/scorecards and data to identify trends,measures performance of the HRBP’s plans  influence the business

    People Management & HR Development

  • Responsible for leading, coaching and developing a large team of HR Business Partners in support of overall Human Resources and business strategy.  7 Direct reports and 25+ indirect reports.

  • Key member of the HR Leadership Team working to develop the HR Business Partner role, the HR Strategic Plan and HR Talent and will bring innovation and ideas to grow the effectiveness of the HR organization.


    The successful candidate for Executive Director, Human Resources Business Partner will have the following attributes and/or experiences:

  • 15+ years of professional experience in Human Resources, including 10+ years managing exempt level HR staff
  • Strong educational background including an undergraduate degree in human resources or related field; Master’s degree in HR/MBA or related field preferred
  • Significant Operational HR Business Partner experience operating in a multi-site environment with remote staff reporting.
  • Proven ability to partner with and influence senior, line executives and collaborate with HR peers
  • Demonstrated results that made a difference in the business and HR function
  • Be an effective leader and build strategic, multi-year plans for the business
  • Understand and has expertise in HR functions – can include organization effectiveness, training, employee engagement, recruiting, succession planning, HR technology/systems, diversity/inclusion, workforce data analytics, compensation/rewards, benefits, labor relations and others.
  • Proficiency in MS Office products, HR systems and demonstrated experience in leveraging technology and data analytics.
  • Understanding of state and federal labor laws and regulations
  • Proactive communicator and effectively presentations skills
  • Ability to travel  25 - 40% of the time
  • SPHR certification  preferred
